Its who we are.
Almost two decades ago, Phil purchased a starter kit for making home brew. He bought it for the sole purpose of creating beer without having to go to the store. From there we fast forward to Phil, his brother Karl and a bunch of friends making beer in Phils garage. They brewed to satisfy their own desires for different tasting beers, and of course there was always the desire to make just a little bit bigger batches. After many Christmas and birthday gifts, there came the ability to make just a little more beer each time they brewed. In March 2004, Josiah, one of the friends that Phil and Karl had been brewing with, celebrated his 30 birthday. Towards the end of the evening, Josiah, Phil and his high school buddy, Jeff, are sharing a few brews looking at some hunting trophies in Jeffs shop. Jeff offers that they could try brewing at his house sometime. No one knew where that one simple offer would lead. From that time on Phil, Karl, Jeff, Josiah and Jeffs brother Ken are brewing on a regular basis. Everyone who tastes their beer asks if they are selling it. Time after time they tell them no, we dont sell our beer. Time after time people tell them they should. It doesnt take long for an idea to spark in Jeffs head. He finally asks the group, “Why dont we sell our beer?" Eventually the idea takes over the minds of everyone in the group. The next question was what are we going to call ourselves? Our brewery needed a name. We sat back and looked at who we are. We have three Dads and two Uncles. At this time, among the three Dads there are six daughters, no sons. In November 2006, Josiah's family welcomed their third daughter. Everyone starts joking that not only is it painfully obvious that there is not a Y chromosome to be had between us, but we have seven weddings to plan for and thus Seven Brides Brewing is born. This story continues to evolve and will hopefully expand into many more chapters in the months and years to come.
